Motorcycle racer Josh Brookes has come a long way from riding around the paddocks in Bringelly.
Next weekend he will be the sole Australian wildcard at the opening round of the Superbike World Championship at Phillip Island.
And the 33-year-old will have a familiar friend in his corner.
Brookes has reunited with his 2015 British superbike title winning bike – the Yamaha YZF-R1M.
“For me, the chassis is the most impressive part of the Yamaha package. When the bike was handling well in 2015 it was an absolute joy to ride,” said Brookes, who will be riding for the ER Motorsports team.
“I've been flat out trying to help get the whole operation together, including sourcing parts from all around the globe.”
Brookes, who finished 14th in last year’s Superbike World Championship, will return to the British Superbike Championships this year with the Anvil TAG Yamaha squad.
But his home round of Phillip Island is his immediate focus – and he needs your help to make it a success.
Brookes has launched a GoFundMe page to help fund his wildcard entry after securing $100,000 from personal sponsors – including major backer Elite Roads – plus his own funding.
Brookes is asking for an additional $30,000 to cover his team's costs.
