Fairfield Liverpool skipper Ben Rohrer is following cricket captaincy 101: leading by example.

He could talk about batting time and building big scores to his young group of talented batsman.

But the 35-year-old is instead busy showing them how to do it.

Last week he complied a match-winning knock of 201 not out against Northern Districts.

Rohrer’s innings was his second double century of the season after scoring 205 not out in round one against Randwick Petersham.

He is one of only five players to have scored two double centuries in a season joining elite company including Don Bradman (1931-1932).

“It was nice to back up my first double hundred in grade cricket with another one in the same season,” Rohrer told the Champion.

“I have made a lot of lower hundreds over the years so it it nice to convert a couple into some really big scores.

“We have a lot of young kids at the club who are just finding their way and trying to help them turn starts into hundreds is something I am focused on.

“If I can be out there in the middle helping them through the tough periods hopefully that will make it easier.”

Rohrer, who described his Big Bash season with the Sydney Thunder as “steady” is hoping he continue to pile on the runs to force his way back into the NSW Sheffield Shield team.

“I love playing first class cricket and all I can do is keep churning out the runs and you never know when you might get the call,” he said. “A big finish for the Lions is my main focus.”
