Three teenage girls were rushed to hospital after falling out of a cage on a ferris wheel.
Around 5.25pm today, October 25, emergency services which included Police, Ambulance and Fire and Rescue were called to the carnival at Memorial Avenue.
Police and ambulance said three girls, between ages 15 and 16, had fallen about four metres from one of the cages and landed on the gate below.
Liverpool Police told Fairfax Media it looked to be “a case of misadventure” from the interviews they’ve gathered so far.
A witness, Nadia Obleshchuk from Villawood, said she saw the girls in open the gate of the carriage which resulted in the plunge.
“One stood up and was yelling to her friend and she opened the gate,” Ms Obleshcuk said.
“And then it got caught and the whole thing tipped and [they] fell out and then they were on the floor."
Ambulance on scene said one girl, who was in "serious but stable condition", was taken to the Children's Hospital at Westmead and the other two to Liverpool Hospital.
"One girl sustained multiple fractures to her pelvis and arm," Inspector John Brotherhood, from the NSW Ambulance, said.
"Another girl, it looked like a fractured arm and the other one is maybe her wrist and some ribs."
NSW Fire and Rescue station officer on scene said he didn't believe the cause of the incident was due to a structural fault.
"On our arrival, it was quite chaotic with people everywhere," Paul Lynch said.
"They were on the ride and somehow they came out of the cage and landed on the ground.
"There were initial reports the [cage] had tipped, which at this point we don't believe it has - it appears structurally sound."
Despite the incident, most of the other rides were still operational while emergency services were taking witness statements and awaiting Work Cover to arrive.
