A teenage girl is dead and another is in hospital after their car smashed into a tree in Ramornie, near Grafton, on Tuesday night.
The 17-year-old driver died at the scene. The passenger, an 18-year-old girl, was treated by paramedics at the crash site before being taken to Grafton Base Hospital.
Her injuries are not serious and she is expected to make a full recovery, according to a NSW police spokesman.
The girls were travelling on Ramornie Station Road at about 6.40pm when their Toyota Rav4 veered off the road and crashed into a tree.
No one else was injured during the incident and early investigations suggest the pair may have lost control of the vehicle, according to police.
"It appears to be a single vehicle collision, so they'll be looking at whether there were any mechanical issues or something else of that nature," the spokesman said.
Police are asking anyone who saw the crash or who saw the vehicle immediately before the crash to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
