THE rising cost of living, expensive property prices and the rental crisis mean some young people are returning home to live with their parents.
Greenspan Group manager John Chesterfield said a middle-aged Sydney couple recently had their teenage son requesting to return home.
"With the combined pressures of rent, university fees and other daily living costs, he was no longer able to sustain his independent lifestyle," he said.
"However, he found things had changed since he had left home.
"His parents had down-sized and no longer had any spare bedrooms to offer him."
Luckily for him, Mr Chesterfield said, the family quickly built a cabana in their backyard without needing council approval.
"This enabled them to relocate their home office into the garden and turn their study back into a bedroom," he said.
"This is one of the many ways that Melwood cabanas are saving relationships and uniting families by providing a quick and easy solution for additional lifestyle space."
Greenspan Group creates spaces to live, work, play and relax.
"Our pre-built, flat-packed and panelised living, storage, and space solutions are the easiest and most rewarding way to enhance your everyday life," Mr Chesterfield said. "Our spaces are fully flexible to meet your needs — whether you're after a garden shed, seaside villa, country cottage, or an urban studio."
Mr Chesterfield said Melwood products did not need council approval because of their size.
