IT took two sets of road spikes to end a 80-kilometre police pursuit on the NSW Mid-North Coast on Saturday.
Police will allege a 40-year-old Caringbah man drove at speeds of up to 150km/h with a flat front tyre after speeding off from a regulation vehicle check south of Port Macquarie at 2.30am Saturday.
Police pursued the man on a 50+km chase from Laurieton along the Pacific Highway until road spikes were first used at Croki Road.
One of the car's front tyres was punctured but he drove on regardless, allegedly reaching speeds of up to 150km/h. He continued onto The Lakes Way at Rainbow Flat before road spikes were again used and the other front tyre deflated.
But it wasn't until the man stopped at Tuncurry that he was arrested.
He was taken to Taree Police Station and charged with police pursuit – not stop (Skye’s Law), and drive in a manner dangerous.
He was conditionally bailed to Taree Local Court on Tuesday, August 19, 2014.
