THERE is no prouder member of the Australian Schoolboys Under-15 Rugby League Merit Team than Mount Pritchard resident Kytak Chan.
"To pull on the green and gold jersey is extra special being of Asian descent. I feel very proud," said Chan, who came to Australia five years ago from Cambodia.
"When they read my name out it was a proud moment."
The 14-year-old only started playing rugby league four years ago and this year played for the Western Sydney Academy of Sport in the Harold Matthews.
He scored three tries for the NSW Combined High schools at the recent Australian Championships in Tamworth which helped the talented outside back gain selection in the team.
Chan was joined in the green and gold by fellow Westfields Sports High School students Tuimavave Afualo and Brandon Wakeham.
Chan and Afualo are also part of the undefeated Cabramatta under-15s team.
"It definitely came a shock to be selected. It was a tough tournament with a lot of good players," Chan said.
