Liverpool youngsters to be seated, properly

Liverpool's parents and carers will be able to get expert advice on safely securing their children in cars from child-seat experts visiting Westfield Liverpool next week.

Child-seat fitting experts will be at Westfield Liverpool on level 2 Centre Court opposite Toys R Us on Friday (9am to 5.30pm), Saturday (9am to 5pm) and Sunday (10am to 5pm), July 18 to 20.

Menai MP Melanie Gibbons said the visit was part of the NSW Government's We're Counting on You campaign which encourages parents and carers to choose the safest seats for children, catering to their ages and sizes, and ensure they are properly installed.

Ms Gibbons said there would be toy cars and a craft corner to keep children entertained.

"We know a child incorrectly secured in a car seat is seven times more likely to get life-threatening injuries in an accident than those using a car seat secured correctly," she said.

Night markets a hit

The Liverpool night markets had a record attendance of 4600, more than three times the number of people at the previous month's market.

The monthly market, which was held on July 5, included performances by hip-hop dance crew The Pioneers and the Acrobatic Bouncers.

Liverpool Council is currently holding a 12-month trial of the markets, which began in May.

Visitors could also visit the Mounties photo booth and a silent disco.

The June night markets had a turnout of 1500 people.

The markets are held on the first Saturday of every month, from 4pm to 9pm at Macquarie Street, Liverpool.
