YOSEIKAN-RYU Karate at Liverpool had 27 competitors at the Tournament of Champions at the Whitlam Leisure Centre, with a majority winning in their categories.
For most it was their first competition.
"We ended up with 20 placings in total including five gold, two silver and 13 bronze," coach Abdul Zahra said.
"This was a fantastic effort considering for most of the guys it was only their first competition.
"All our coaches are proud and they also should be proud of themselves.
"They all exceeded our expectations and they all seemed to have fun out there.
"The main point we try and get across to our students is that it's not about winning, it's about trying your best.
"If you try your best we can't ask for more."
One of the young rising stars is Eden Zahra, 6, in his first competition, who finished second.
The next big one for team Yoseikan is in four weeks where they will be sending seven athletes with the NSW Karate team to compete at the National Karate Championships.
Yoseikan is offering free karate lessons for one month at the Whitlam Leisure Centre. Contact Wally Zahra on 0419 270 993.
