LOCALS will be able to check their hearing when a mobile service visits Liverpool this week.
The Australian Hearing Bus will be at Casula Mall, Ingham Drive, Casula, on June 20 from 9am to 3pm.
And The Valley Plaza, 187 Wilson Road, Green Valley, on June 21 from 9am to 3pm.
As well as hearing checks, visitors to the bus will get information on common hearing problems and view a display of easy-to-use hearing aids.
Australian Hearing Liverpool manager Richard Hind said age-related hearing loss develops gradually over time, it was common for people to not be aware their hearing is diminishing.
"Hearing loss is more common than we think, as many as one in six Australians suffer from hearing loss," he said.
"This also increases with age. Half of people aged between 60 and 70 have some form of hearing loss and it increases to 70 per cent for people over 70.
"We recommend to take action earlier rather than later."
Mr Hind said often it is family and friends who notice hearing loss first.
"The great thing about the bus is that it is easily accessible.
"The hearing check only takes a few minutes and our staff will talk through the results."
Signs of hearing loss include trouble understanding people who are facing away, difficulty hearing the phone ring and finding it hard to follow conversations.
