Liverpool man charged with two outstanding warrants

Police have charged 10 people and seized 12 firearms during a proactive policing operation targeting outlaw motorcycle gangs in south west Sydney.

Operation Union saw more than 600 officers deployed over the three days to target outlaw motorcycle gangs, club houses, business premises and areas where individuals believed to have OMCG links congregate.

The operation ran between Thursday, June 12 and Saturday, June 14, and involved all Local Area Commands and Region Enforcement Squads within the South West Metropolitan Region.

They were assisted by a number of specialist units including State Crime Command, Traffic and Highway Patrol Command, Public Order and Riot Squad, and the Dog Unit.

South West Metropolitan Region Commander, Assistant Commissioner Frank Mennilli, said high-visibility policing operations, like Operation Union, are the key to dismantling and disrupting criminal activity.

“During the operation, officers visited more than 200 homes and more than 50 places frequented by individuals linked to outlaw motorcycle gangs,” he said.

“In addition, we conducted 58 person searches, 17 vehicle searches, numerous business inspections and bail compliance checks.

“As a result, we arrested 10 people and laid dozens of charges, including possession of firearms and other prohibited weapons, illegal drug possession, outstanding warrants.

“We also seized 12 firearms, including nine rifles and three shotguns; detonators, an extendable baton, knuckle dusters, drugs and stolen property, including a rebirthed vehicle.

“Through intelligence gathered during the operation and identifying OMCG associations, we will also make applications for the cancellation of a number of firearms licences.

“There is no place in our community for these people and their associates – we will not tolerate blatant disregard for the law and for community safety,” Assistant Commissioner Mennilli said.

* A 64-year-old Airds man was arrested during a search warrant and charged with 11 offences including possess shortened firearm (not pistol), not keep firearm safely – prohibited firearm, receive/dispose stolen property, goods suspected stolen, possess prescribed restricted substance and possess or use a prohibited weapon without permission.
