WESTFIELDS Sports High rugby director Alex Larkin wants to produce the next Olympian.

But he needs some help from the community.

Next year the school will welcome its first intake of rugby sevens students — the first dedicated program for young female rugby athletes.

"We have 12 to 15 spots and we are calling on girls with not only a rugby or rugby league background but anyone with athletic ability to have a go," Mr Larkin said.

"We are looking ahead to the 2020 [Tokyo] Olympics. And if we can get the girls introduced early the Olympics are definitely a realistic goal."

Rugby sevens will be played at the Rio Olympics.
