An expert on the study of genomics, which can be used to understand complex diseases such as cancer, addressed researchers at the Ingham Institute last week.

Garvan Institute of Medical Research Professor John Mattick  is known internationally for his research on genomics — the study of a person's total genetic information and the interactions it has with their environment.

That information can also be used to understand cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and neurological diseases.

Professor Mattick said the past decade had seen one of the most remarkable technological and scientific revolutions in human history.
