SECRETARY to the Premier Marie Ficarra recognised the Liverpool-based Autism Advisory and Support Service (AASS) with a commendation in state parliament recently.
She also presented the organisation's president Grace Fava and vice-president Fiona Zammit with a framed acknowledgement.
Ms Ficarra told Parliament that autism affects more than one in 100 children in Australia and April is Autism Awareness month.
"Autism Advisory and Support Service was established in 2007 by a group of parents from south-western Sydney to fill the void in the health care sector encountered by families of children with autism and to positively impact and influence their children's social and emotional development," Ms Ficarra said.
She asked the House to commend the organisation and staff for their community work.
