KARATE duo Cara Macalister and Tara Boyd are representing Australia at the US Open Karate Championships next month, April 16 to 20.
The competition attracts several hundred athletes from around the world.
Cara, 13, and Tara, 10, are members of the Yoseikan-Ryu Karate Dojo Club at Liverpool's Whitlam Leisure Centre.
Sensei Abdul Zahra said the girls pack a mean punch in competition.
"Cara and Tara have been training very hard for the US Open," Zahra said.
"They're both dedicated at what they do. The girls have a few competitions before the US Open so these events will be an important lead-up for them."
The girls were selected by the Australian Karate Federation. Cara is a national title winner and she competed for Australia at the British Open in Scotland last year.
Tara was national champion in 2011 and 2012 and she was second at last year's nationals.
"Cara and Tara compete in kata and kumite competitions," Zahra said.
"They've both won multiple state, national, Oceania, Commonwealth and US open titles."
Zahra said youngsters can emulate the deeds of Cara and Tara by joining their club and getting a free month's training.
