Former NRL player Shane Shackleton will headline fight at Hitchinbrook

FORMER NRL player Shane Shackleton will be one of the headline fighters this Saturday at the Uruguayan Social and Sporting Club at Hinchinbrook.

Shackleton, 31, of Kemps Creek, plays league for Mounties in the NSW Cup.

The one-time Sydney Roosters, Parramatta and Penrith forward is also a keen boxing trainer. "I do some sparring in the gym at Liverpool PCYC," he said. "I'm looking forward to having a bout. I enjoy my boxing."

Green Valley man Alf Davies, who runs the boxing program at Liverpool PCYC, is organising the Uprite Promotions fight night.

He said special guests include Bulldogs NRL player Sam Kasiano and Frank Pritchard and and former world light welterweight Lovemore Nadou, of Liverpool.

Davies said proceeds from the night will be used for several community boxing programs.

On the program there are several potential Australian title competitors and possible Glasgow Commonwealth Games boxers fighting. Doors open at 4.30pm and the first fight is 5pm. Ticket: $40 (general), $20 (under-16s), $50 (general reserve seating).

Other fighters are Miller's Phil Kennedy, Terry Allen, Ryan Ambrose, Brad McDermott, Brendan Micallef, 2012 London Olympian Jai Opetaia, Kostya Tszyu's son Nikita Tszyu and current world junior champion Satali Tevi Fuiamaono.

The club is at 56-62 Whitford Road.
