RICHARD Birt (pictured right) has been recognised for more than three decades of service at Moorebank Cricket Club. The Moorebank resident was awarded the Australia Day Sports Award from Liverpool Council on Sunday.
At Moorebank Cricket Club, Mr Birt is the man that has done it all since 1982.
As player, coach, manager, mentor or committee member he is always there to lend his expertise.
"It was big surprise to win the award. I didn't even know I was nominated," he said.
"It is a great honour to be recognised but my reward is seeing a kid smile when they achieve something and seeing their eyes light up when they take a wicket or score a run.
"I really enjoy what I do and helping people develop their cricket skills. In particular we have 10 to 12 people with disabilities who play in our club and it has been good to see them learn and improve their skills."
