Lions get close again but chase falls short

DESPITE half centuries from Wendel Delpechitra and Jake Doran Fairfield Liverpool fell six short in their run chase against Eastern Suburbs at Rosedale Oval on Saturday.

The Lions first grade team lost the one-day game after making 188 in reply to Eastern Suburbs’ 194.

Delpechitra top scored with 60 and wicketkeeper/batsman Doran made 52, with the pair adding 94 runs in a seventh wicket partnership.

Delpechitra batted 140 minutes for his half century and faced 90 balls while Doran struck four boundaries in his 87 minute and 73 ball innings.

When Delpechitra and Doran were dismissed the team’s hopes nosedived.

Lions paceman Phil Hangyasi took 4-26 and Harmon Sandhu 2-50 and spinner Anthony Clark 2-44.

The Lions are second-last, on 12 points.

In many games this season the Lions have been in a position to win but simply haven’t scored enough runs.

In round 10, the Lions play Penrith at Howell Oval. Play starts at 10am.
