The Georges River Combined Councils Committee has expressed concerns about the environmental impact of last month's Glenfield Wastewater Treatment Plant sewage leak on the waterway.
More than 150 megalitres of untreated wastewater flowed into the Bunbury Curran Creek and then into the Georges River following a valve failure at the plant after heavy rain on November 22.
Committee chairman Naji Peter Najjar said the committee urged Sydney Water to take stronger preventative measures to make sure this did not happen again.
The committee has also recommended that Sydney Water could improve its process of reporting environmental incidents to the the committee.
It has also called for a review of all procedures and infrastructure with the findings presented to relevant groups.
