FAIRFIELD Liverpool have already lost on first innings after the opening day's play against UNSW at Rosedale Oval.
In a dramatic day on which 20 wickets fell, the Lions dismissed UNSW for 116, but then collapsed for 112. UNSW are 0-20 in their second innings in the cricket first-grade round three match.
Lions fast bowler Keiran Elley took 5-34 to rout the UNSW batsmen. But in a below-par batting performance, skipper Luke Doran top-scored with 38 not out, receiving little support from the top order.
To win the match outright this Saturday, the Lions will need to dismiss UNSW cheaply and then reel in their opponents when they bat a second time.
Play resumes on day two at 10.30am.
The Lions are winless so far this season with no points in the first grade Sydney Cricket Association competition. Then on Sunday at Rosedale Oval the Lions lost their Twenty20 clash against Sydney. The Lions made 7-99 and Sydney replied with 6-101.
In other club news, Lions fast bowler Gurinder Sandhu and batsman Ben Rohrer played in the NSW team that lost the Ryobi Cup final against Queensland at North Sydney Oval. Queensland made 5-319 in reply to NSW's 6-317. Rohrer scored 48 from 27 deliveries while Sandhu had no joy bowling finishing with 0-62.
