NONAGENARIAN Con Kontista is Austral Bowling Club's oldest playing member — and he has no thoughts of giving the game away.
Kontista turns 92 on Friday, October 25.
The former Liverpool real estate business owner said he plans to keep sending down the bowls for years to come.
"I enjoy my bowls," Kontista said.
Each Thursday the former pennants player gets out on the greens and afterwards enjoys lunch, refreshment and a chat with friends.
Not even the searing heat and hot winds last Thursday could prevent him from playing.
Kontista came to Australia with his parents from Croatia in 1946 and he lived in Liverpool's rural communities at Austral and Leppington for almost six decades.
His links are strong with the Liverpool community through Rotary and also in business, having owned C. Kontista Real Estate in Liverpool for many years until he sold the Business 1982 to Robert R. Andrew.
Kontista still works a few days a week in a family company investment and superannuation business.
"I like to keep active and do things," he said.
Kontista is one of the club's founding members and Austral Bowling Club started in 1966.
The club stalwart helped to build Austral's first clubhouse with the founding committee.
"We had a tin shed when we started," Kontista said.
Kontista said he wants to keep playing as long as he can.
"I have no thoughts of retiring from lawn bowls," Kontista quipped.
"I feel fit and well."
The father of three children, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren has been married to Gladys since 1952.
