DENNIS Lynch is one of the many friendly members of the community who volunteer time to fight fires.
Mr Lynch is the president and treasurer of the Leppington Rural Fire Service (RFS) brigade.
The brigade is part of the Macarthur zone which covers the area from Liverpool through to Campbelltown and Camden.
On Saturday, September 28, the Leppington brigade will join stations across the zone when its doors open to the public for the annual Rural Fire Service Open Day.
Mr Lynch said he encouraged the public to visit brigades in their areas and meet the volunteers behind the scenes.
"Come down and have a look around and meet and greet the local firefighters of each area," he said. "We provide community education including information on bushfire safety, fire safety, cleaning around the house and making sure gutters are cleaned.
"We try to do what we can to help the community and meet their requirements and needs."
The day will include fire hose demonstrations, information on fire safety and bushfire survival plans.
Children will be able to climb on a fire truck and participate in activities.
Registration will also be open for recruits.
