LIVERPOOL Police officer, Peter Heginbotham is an ideal role model for young constables.
The leading senior constable was recently named the 2013 recipient of Liverpool's Police Officer of the Year Award.
He said he enjoyed getting out and about and teaching younger staff members in the field.
"I'm always involved in what's happening and I'm usually the first person on the scene," Constable Heginbotham said.
"I like to lead by example and let my experiences help show them [junior constables] how to go about things.
"I think we've had one of the highest amount of arrests since I've been here."
Constable Heginbotham has had a range of experiences in the police force.
He moved to Liverpool Police Station last year after working at Macquarie Fields Highway patrol for four years.
Constable Heginbotham said he had wanted a change of pace and Liverpool was the perfect place to start his new role.
"It's very different from what I'm used to," he said.
"It's a lot more multicultural.
"But I'm enjoying the challenge."
Constable Heginbotham said he was humbled by being named Police Officer of the Year.
"It's very uplifting to receive recognition for my hard work," he said.
"I'm really enjoying it here and hope to stay here for a while."
