FOUR former local HSC students were able to get a head start at university after they received scholarships from the Liverpool Catholic Club recently.
The club has, since 1992, awarded the duxes of Catholic schools in Liverpool bursary scholarships to help with the cost of tertiary education.
Students were selected from schools within the district — Freeman Catholic College, All Saints, Good Samaritan and Clancy College.
Recipients included Cristina Beretta who scored an ATAR of 99.6, Domenic Pace (98.5), Marina Estephan (94.55) and Fiona Fuller (96.9).
Austral resident Cristina Beretta, from All Saints Catholic College, said university was "full-on", and the scholarship had taken some of the stress and pressure off juggling her finances.
"The textbooks are so expensive, trying to get my head around studying and working at the same time has been challenging," she said.
"The scholarship has been really good at taking some of the pressure off me financially.
"Uni has been full-on and I think I would have been a lot more stressed if I didn't get this scholarship.
"It's been a great help and one less thing to worry about."
