MOOREBANK High School design and textile students explored Moroccan culture when an old suitcase arrived on their doorstep recently.
The Travelling Suitcase Exhibition run by the Australian Textile Art and Surface Design Association has trekked across the country stopping at schools and community groups, including Cabramatta High school, before arriving at Moorebank.
The vintage suitcase contained an assortment of 20 detailed textile works, artists' statements and basic instructions for the techniques used in the work. The works inside included material art sheets and a doll inspired by the ancient Moroccan city of Marrakech.
Moorebank High design and textiles teacher Penny Dunbar said the exhibition was a great source of inspiration for students and a good resource for teachers. "I don't think the students have seen anything that detailed and intricate before," she said. "Every single thing inside that suitcase reflected the styles, culture and textiles of Marrakech."
