THOMAS Hassall Anglican College junior soccer team are winners.
The Middleton Grange school year 5 and year 6 senior team recently won the New Anglican Schools Sports Association round-robin held recently at Penrith.
"This is the first time we have won this event," delighted coach/year 6 teacher Andrew Raft said.
"We went through the tournament undefeated winning all seven games on the day against good-quality teams.
"It was a great effort from the 15 boys we had in the squad."
Raft said the junior soccer program is thriving.
"We could only select 15 boys and we had 60 players trial for places in the squad for this event and our weekly school sport's competition which starts in the second term," he said.
"Soccer has always been strong at the school, this is my seventh year here.
"We have a diverse range of cultures at the school and many of the kids came from backgrounds where soccer is in their DNA.
"We have a of of kids with Italian and European heritage. Many of the kids play in the Southern Districts Soccer Football Association in club competitions so their skills and knowledge of the game are ready made."
