Austral calling for 2013 players

KICK-OFF is nearing for the winter season in the Southern Districts Soccer Football Association competitions on April 6.

Austral Soccer Club president Kevin Campbell said he is hoping for another big year after their 2012 season.

Austral had four minor premiers, three grand final winners and 80 per cent of their teams reached finals.

In 2012, Austral had 38 teams which featured three girls' teams. Austral always welcome girls to join the club and are expecting some age groups to fill up quickly.

Campbell says he wants to encourage girls to play and that team sport is good for everyone. "Team sports create life skills that can be used at work or school," he said.

"It's not only a sport or simply exercise but great at developing skills."

He says that Austral Soccer Club is a community and family based club.

"We also like to think of ourselves as a development club," he said.

The club has 18 children included in the SAP (Skills Acquisition Program) for elite level players run by Football NSW.

"This is a great achievement considering the size of our club; it's an incredible number," he said.
