SOUTH West Sydney Academy of Sport executive director Gerry Knights said he was shocked to discover he had been named as the western Sydney recipient of the 2012 University of Western Sydney — Outstanding Community Service Award.
Knights recently received the award at the university's Parramatta campus.
Humble in his acceptance, Knights said his passion for the local community was his inspiration to work hard and get as much done as possible, without procrastinating about negatives and financial restraints that often arise.
He said he was adept at getting the most out of an under-financed situation, through community partnerships and personal endeavour.
