Stop concealing the lice

ALL Saints Catholic Primary school children are prepared to fight a war against nits.

The Liverpool school is one of many in Australia to have joined the Moov Defend Your Class program.

More than 4.5 million cases of head lice are detected in Australia each year, with 62 per cent of parents in NSW struggling to break the cycle, says Ego Pharmaceuticals, a company which supplies a range of products to control head lice.

Moov Defend Your Class is a program designed to help reduce the stigma and embarrassment of head lice among children and parents. It encourages communication between parents and schools and provides information on lice treatments and management.

Children from kindergarten to year 6 have been given class plan packs stocked with information.

All Saints principal Christine Scanlon said even though head lice were not a big problem in the school, it was still important to address and inform children and parents.

"I think it's a good way to make parents more aware of the problem," she said.

"We often find that a lot of parents don't know what to do or might feel ashamed about it."
