Helpful calendar

Free 2013 calendars which include crime prevention tips are available at Liverpool, Green Valley, Cabramatta and Fairfield police stations. This is part of a crime prevention initiative where funding was granted from NRMA. The calendars have been printed in English, Arabic and Vietnamese. It also covers safety topics including how to contact police, neighbourhood watch, home security, child restraints, personal safety, young offenders act, internet safety, fraud, banking, vehicle security, public transport, smoke alarms, alcohol and domestic and family violence.

Elderly man critical

A Fairfield man, 53, was last Friday charged with special aggravated break and enter and commit an indictable offence after an elderly man was left in a critical condition in Moorebank. The elderly man, 78, and his wife returned to their home on Newbridge Road to find a stranger in the house at 12.05pm on January 28.

The elderly man was found by his wife on the floor and remains in Liverpool Hospital in a critical and unstable condition. The 53-year-old was arrested at an office in Fairfield. He was refused bail and faces Campbelltown Local Court today.

Fire damages house

Green Valley police are investigating a fire at a home on Cormorant Avenue, Hinchinbrook on Saturday at 7.20pm. The occupants of the family home tried to extinguish the fire using a garden hose but it overpowered them and they were forced to leave.

Fire and Rescue NSW brought the blaze under control but it caused extensive structural damage to the property.

Neighbouring properties were also affected. Police believe the fire was not suspicious but the exact cause is yet to be determined. Police are preparing a report for the Coroner.
