THE Liverpool Youth Council will take the opportunity to give back to local youth this Australia Day.
Members will join in the Australia Day celebrations through their stall at Woodward Park on January 26, 2013.
Treasurer Sachin Kinger said he was looking forward to the event.
"We will have a free thong throwing comp; each person will take two turns to see who can throw the thong the furthest," Mr Kinger said. "We've been running the thong comp for a while, as far back as I can remember."
The thong throwing competition is just one of the fun activities on offer.
There will also be a lamington eating competition.
"The quickest person to eat the lamingtons will win," Mr Kinger said.
"The prize for both competitions is a $20 gift card, and there will be a prize for runner-up."
The 12 young members of the youth council meet once a month and plan events for the youth of Liverpool.
"We believe these competitions will appeal to the youth," Mr Kinger said.
The youth council aims to give back to the Liverpool youth community by putting on events and collaborating with other organisations.
This year's planned Youth Week celebrations and open air cinema hopes to create lots of fun for young people in Liverpool.
"There's lots to look forward to," Mr Kinger said.
Members of the youth council will be wearing white at the Australia Day celebrations.
