DURING this month Warwick Farm Racecourse has several big thoroughbred race meetings scheduled — including the bumper Australia Day Cup meeting on Saturday, January 26.
Racing fans can enjoy the holiday month with meetings scheduled for today and the feature meeting on Australia Day.
Highlight race on the nation's birthday will be the running of the $100,00 Australia Day Cup (2400 metres) for stayers.
The 2013 Australia Day meeting will be the third time it has been held at Warwick Farm, with the Australian Turf Club keen to build the annual event into a giant family day.
The Australian Turf Club marketing department has organised a raft of activities for families as well as entertainment provided by musicians and Australia Day theme activities for children.
Patrons can also indulge in home-grown cuisine and buy an Aussie barbecue pack for just $5 and receive a sausage sizzle, drink and dessert. There is also the Vili's pie eating competition for people feeling extra hungry.
And racegoers can also increase their chances of maximising their winnings simply by buying a race book.
Should any jockey wearing Australia Day coloured silks win on the day, race book holders will score a $5 bet on course to spend on a race of their choice.
