WARWICK Farm's big festive season thoroughbred race meeting is Saturday, December 22.
The feature event is the running of the $175,000 Inglis Villiers Stakes (1600 metres). The metric mile will attract a top-quality field of middle-distance horses with the winner an automatic qualifier for the autumn feature, the Doncaster Handicap (1600 metres) to be run at Randwick on Saturday, April 20.
It is a historic race, first run in 1892. The race is traditionally held at Randwick but with major renovations underway at the course, the Villiers was switched to Warwick Farm last year and is back at Liverpool in 2012.
Warwick Farm trainers are expected to have a strong representation in the event.
The Australian Turf Club is expecting a big crowd. Officials are organising Christmas activities for the family and children. It is free entry for patrons.
Gates open 11.30am and first race is 1pm.
