THE departure of John Morris opens the way for the Wests Tigers to bolster the halves' positions for the 2010 NRL season.
Morris will join the Sharks for 2010/2011.
The versatile Morris, 28, has played half, five-eighth, lock and hooker with the Tigers during his three seasons.
He has not missed a game in this time, proving one of the Tigers' most consistent performers.
The Tigers now have extra cash to spend and strengthen the halves with coach Tim Sheens persisting with Benji Marshall in the No.7 jersey this season and for a fair slice of the 2008 season.
Marshall's football brain, class and talent are unquestionable in whatever position he plays.
But the No.6 jersey is where he's best suited, standing an extra pass wide of the play-the-ball to attack the defensive line orchestrating the attack.
Brett Finch's future at Melbourne looks uncertain because the Storm have salary cap problems and the Tigers are interested in the former NSW halfback.
Former Roosters, Brisbane, Bulldogs and Storm five-eighth Arana Taumata, 20, has also been linked with the Tigers.
However, Taumata, was axed by the Bulldogs and Storm for disciplinary reasons and must be considered a huge risk.
Wests Tigers' finals hopes are over after losing 21-10 to St George Illawarra at the Sydney Football Stadium on Friday night.
The Tigers are second last on 12 points, losing seven of their past eight games.
In round 17, the Wests Tigers play Souths this Saturday at ANZ Stadium, Olympic Park, at 5.30pm.
