Liverpool's Ice Dogs show some bite

01 Jul, 2009 03:23 PM
VETERAN Chris Sekura returned to energise the Ice Dogs team, inspiring Liverpool's Australian Ice Hockey League team to a 4-1 win over Gold Coast Bluetongues on Saturday night at Liverpool Catholic Club.

It was then a road trip to Newcastle on Sunday to battle with the competition leaders Northstars where the Dogs lost a thriller, 3-2.

Ice Dogs' senior player Scott Stephenson said the team had to get ``its mongrel back'' after a string of losses.

``We played well to defeat the Bluetongues and gave it 100 per cent in the narrow loss to the Northstars,'' Stephenson said.

In Saturday's game, Jassi Sangha scored the opening goal.

But defence man Andrew White was the star, scoring two goals in the third and final period.

Captain Anthony Wilson sealed the match in the dying stages making the score 4-1.

On Sunday against Newcastle the Ice Dogs lost 3-2 and stretching their opponents until the final whistle. ``Despite the loss on Sunday I am proud of the guys as we are starting to play like the team we can be,'' Ice Dogs coach Mark Stephenson said.

The Ice Dogs meet Adelaide Adrenaline this Sunday at Liverpool Catholic Club, from 5pm.
