THIS columnist caper is a bit like being the opposition party in parliament.
Read any column in any newspaper and you will see what I mean: the practitioners observe the world, look for what's not right, then sit down in front of their computer to write down their thoughts.
Inevitably they are critical of politicians, councillors -anyone who does not seem to be doing their job properly, or at all.
Of course, this gives the columnist a measure of power and this should be exercised wisely because he or she may be influencing thousands of people.
It is an onerous task that I, for one, do not undertake lightly, and I am always conscious of being as positive as possible.
That's not always possible so you've got to expect the arrows from the wounded public figures.
Still, someone's got to perform this important task and to point out where we're going wrong.
Just like I did last week over the lack of support for the campaign by some Liverpool residents for noise barriers.
I mentioned three local politicians whom I felt could be doing more to help our fellow citizens.
But what was interesting was their differing reactions to the perceived slight.
No names, no pack drill. Let's just say one was really upset, and a second asked me when are we having that lunch that we've been trying to organise all of this year.
The third completely ignored everything: par for the course..
To more important matters now, and to tell you the Champion will be coming to you from a new home next week. Still in Liverpool, though.
After nearly 10 years on the second floor of the Fairfax building on the corner of Moore Street and George Street, we're packing up and moving to a lovely, almost brand-new building in Castlereagh Street, Liverpool.
It's really close to Westfield so the retail therapy enthusiasts among us are really looking forward to the two-minute walk there.
Moving office is a bit like moving house; nothing changes, just your address.
You will get all the details of our relocation in next week's paper, so you will be able to drop in and give us your news, as always.
