LURNEA residents are up in arms over the possible closure of a park, saying it will leave local children with nowhere to play.
James Clark said he received a letter asking for public submissions on a plan to sell the park, which is in Facey Crescent.
Mr Clark said he was disappointed that the council was considering such a move, which he said ``would be a huge loss''.
``The children wouldn't have anything to do after school,'' he said.
But a Liverpool Council spokeswoman said no decision had yet been made to sell the land, which she said was one of 19 sites of surplus council land outlined as areas that could ``possibly be sold''.
``The council is undertaking community consultation and will consider the matter after taking community feedback into account,'' she said.
Mr Clark said: ``The council told us that the park isn't well used, but up to 30 children play there every afternoon, and a nearby school uses the park too, for outdoor lessons.''
Mr Clark said he took a petition to residents and got ``quite a few signatures'' and that everyone in the street was lodging complaints about the move.
``I bet they're looking to sell this land to developers and make a load of money,'' he said.
``That's just not fair, because we need this park for our kids.''
The council spokeswoman said the matter went before the council on September 14.
``The recommendation of conducting community consultation and provision of a further report by council officers following this consultation process was adopted,'' she said. ``The follow-up report is due to be presented to the council by the end of the year.''
Public submissions can be sent to the council before November 30.
