Protest meeting planned

30 Jul, 2010 11:53 AM
Liverpool Council has set Sunday August 15 as the day for their protest rally against the planned Moorebank container terminal.

After originally planning to hold the rally in front of Collingwood House, the council will now hold it at Moorebank Sports Club, 230 Heathcote Road, Hammondville.

The event will start from 11am.

A council press release said this week that the rally will ``say NO'' to the intermodal freight terminal.

``Liverpool Councillors are calling on all residents of Liverpool to take a stand ... and lobby against the Federal Government's proposed intermodal freight teminal plans for Moorebank,'' the release said.

Residents will have a chance to sign a petition against the proposed terminal.

Reduced property values, noise and air pollution, traffic congestion, light spill, dust, road damage and tree removal are listed as just some of the things that the council is saying ``NO'' to.

At an extraordinary meeting earlier this week the councillors voted unanimously to allocated $20,000 to funding a publicity campaign against the proposed terminal.

if the people of liverpool really want to fight and show that the goverment is wrong, do not vote at the coming election it is clear that labour and liberal will support the intermodal terminal. do we have the guts, how strong do we want to put our message across, ask yourself what will happen to the land where the current terminal is, who will benifit not the residents of liverpool and surrounding areas.15th meeting vote to not vote at the coming election.

John, yes the politicians should be working for local residents. Unfortunately some seem to be working for those in the wrong electorates instead of their local constituents. All residents of Liverpool should attend the rally.

It is time that liverpool council residents show that the moorebank container terminals are not on at any cost. The mere fact that it is contemplated is proof that that the people behind htis project arent aware of the envoironmental disaster that would happen if the container terminals are built. You can first write off the georgesr river, anzac creek chipping norton lake. The health risk for the families of thousamnds of residents.I always thought politicians where suppose to work in the interest of residents but in this case they are denying residents natural justice John Anderson wattle grove 0409368603
