Premier O'Farrell visits Liverpool for business luncheon

08 Feb, 2012 01:46 PM
Premier Barry O'Farrell was in Liverpool on Wednesday, as guest speaker at the monthly Liverpool Chamber of Commerce luncheon held at the Comfort Inn Hunts.

It was the first time he was at the luncheon in his role as premier as almost a year to the day he was guest speaker last February when he was Opposition Leader during the 2011 NSW State election campaign.

''It's great to be back in Liverpool,'' Mr O'Farrell said.

''It is a year since I was last here at the Liverpool Chamber of Commerce luncheon when I was opposition leader, but since then I have changed jobs in the meantime.

''I see Liverpool as an important city and its area for the future growth of business, development and jobs.''

Liverpool Chamber of Commerce president Harry Hunt said there were 180 guests at the function.

''We're very pleased to have the premier back here as guest speaker and we invite him back again for next year and would like to make it an annual event for Mr O'Farrell to come and speak at the chamber,'' Mr Hunt said.

Mr O'Farrell hinted he would accept the invite to be the chamber guest speaker against next February.

''Why not, but only if Harry Hunt is here,'' Mr O'Farrell quipped.

We like Mr O'Farrell. He is 'a saint' compared to the likes of Tony Abbott, Billy Sneddon & Sophie Mirabella. :)

Yes.

Fact: Mr O'Farrell & Malcolm Turnbull are 'statesmen'

Mr Abbott is a 'gasbag'

Great to see the Premier here in Liverpool. A great opportunity to talk to him about the many things that we need the State Governemnts help with - like CCTV and the Intermodal.

Unfortunatly, our Mayor, didn't see it the same way. After 15 minutes of her arriving and as soon as she did her speech she left. Considering she was sitting next to The Premier of NSW who has come to her city, what could be more important than sitting with him and making representations on behalf of Liverpool?

She never ceases to amaze me or let me down as a resident

I'm gobsmacked by the revelation of the Mayor gone missing in action, doesn't she want to be seen with the Liberal Premier?

How is it that Costco and Ikea want to come to Liverpool, is that just an accident? If that is how the mayor treats civic and industry leaders it's a wonder Liverpool is making any progress towards a regional city at all.

Thank you mayor, for putting in a supreme effort on behalf of the ratepayers of Liverpool.

Mr Premier please get involved in the Intermodal dispute as their is no honesty and integrity in dealings that have occurred so far.The proponents are doing anything but addressing the real issues. The health of residents will be badly effected if they continue as if the area is not bad enough already. The important environmental areas will also be effected by these diesel emissions. We want a fair dinkum study not this continual evasion of the real issues.

The Premier's attendance at the Liverpool Chamber of Commerce function is a clear sign that he is committed to Liverpool.

The amount of money the State Government is investing in infrastructure projects in Liverpool is critical to promoting jobs in an area that needs more employment. The south west rail link and M5 widening are two projects the State Government have commenced in less than twelve months in office that the Labor Party couldn't do in 15 years in office since 1995.

Come Sept Local Government elections are on, remember enough is enough with Labor and vote them out.

It's clear that nearly everybody appreciates Mr O'Farrell. Unlike Mr Abbott. His coming to Liverpool means it will be looked out for for years to come. Pleased.

With the huge growth in population planned for the future of south west Sydney, jobs will be created. May I suggest that a business technology park instead of the giant intermodal freight terminals that are proposed on Moorebank Ave will provide a substantial amount of jobs too and at the same time reduce the number of casualties that would have been administered to health departments due to the toxic fumes created by the intermodals to be built so close to the residential areas of Liverpool. That would be a win win situation.

The proposals for the freight terminals on Moorebank Ave require much more thorough scrutiny as the proponents of both proposals have tried to cover up the negatives sides that it will have for the Liverpool residents. A full public enquiry into the Environmental Impact Studies is required to put all the facts on the table openly and honestly. That's all we ask

The M5 is like a slug going nowhere.

One additional lane in each direction planned for an extra 1000 plus trucks per day and new housing growth centres in Leppington and Liverpool areas.

Two massive train and truck distrubition centres planned for Holsworthy.

A Mayor that sees no future in discussing such matters with State Premier.

Where is Liverpool headed?
