IT'S been four years running, but Liverpool firefighter Scott Hanley is still committed to this week's NSW Fire Brigade's 400 in 4 charity bike ride.
Money raised from the event will go to the burns unit at the Children's Hospital in Westmead.
The 400-kilometre ride, which started yesterday and will finish on Friday in Wagga Wagga, takes place over four days and involves 16 firefighters from fire
stations throughout NSW and two crew members.
The group will not only be raising money, but
sharing fire safety knowledge along the way.
``We will be doing fire safety demonstrations at schools along the route in Goulburn, Yass, Gundagai and Wagga Wagga,'' Mr Hanley said.
``We are also promoting the change your clock, change your smoke alarm battery campaign and the triple-0 campaign.''
So far the group has raised more than $30,000 which will go straight towards funding an anaesthetic fellow, who is responsible for providing expertise in pain relief in theatres and during dressing changes in the outpatients clinic.
Mr Hanley said that without community and
sponsorship support from Macquarie Bank and
Wonder Bread, the event would not be possible.
