THE fate of a proposed Islamic school at Hoxton Park lies with Liverpool Council.
An Independent Hearing and Assessment Panel discussed the proposed development of the Malek Fahd Islamic School campus at 612 Hoxton Park Road.
Hoxton Park residents who oppose the 800-student school and representatives from the school, including the principal, Intaj Ali, were at the meeting.
About 20 residents spoke before the panel and mentioned their concerns, the main one of which is traffic.
Some residents and others at the meeting agreed said the information presented to the panel in a report had been ``flawed and misleading''.
One complaint about the report was that it had stated that a survey conducted for Liverpool Council found that peak hours for traffic within the estate were 10am to 11am and 5pm to 6pm.
But residents at the meeting insisted this was not so.
Planning consultant Richard Symth, who helped put together the development application, said the traffic problem would ease once the $71 million upgrade of Hoxton Park Road was complete.
Mr Ali stressed that the school was a planned development.
``We will start with just 50 children and build up slowly,'' he said.
``This is going to be a campus of the school, not a school itself.''
Mr Ali also said the school would help to increase local property prices.
The Independent Hearing and Assessment Report and a report prepared by the Director of City Planning, which will include any additional issues raised, will be presented and discussed at a council meeting on Monday, June 15.
