CHILDREN who attend Valley Heights Preschool and pupils at Green Valley Public School will be a little safer now that flashing 40kmh zone lights have been installed on Green Valley Road.
Anita Irsak, the owner and director of Valley Heights Preschool, submitted an application to Peter Olsen who, with funding from Brydens Compensation Lawyers, is currently independently installing lights at schools throughout Liverpool, Fairfield and Blacktown.
Mrs Irsak said she has noticed a big difference since the flashing lights were installed at the Green Valley Road and Currawong Street intersection.
``Since the flashing lights have gone up you can see that drivers seem to notice the school zone because of the lights and you see their brakes go on,'' she said.
``Drivers didn't realise that they had to slow down because they didn't take notice of the 40-zone signs before.
``I didn't think installing the lights would make such a huge impact on the area.''
Although Mrs Irsak is relieved that lights have been installed, she is still concerned about the high volume of traffic using Green Valley Road and the Wilson Road roundabout.
``I think traffic is a big concern in the area, but the lighting will at least slow the traffic down,'' she said.
In 2007 Ms Irsak and other residents approached Liverpool Council about the amount of infrastructure and traffic problems in the area.
``What Peter has done is really good and it was really up to the council to do something earlier.''
