Colourful Bolivia Munay helps kids

THIS year's Amerindian Festival at Bonnyrigg Sports Club was a big hit.

The event was organised by Bolivia Munay, a non-profit organisation that, partnered with Compassion Australia, sponsors children and raises funds for projects in Bolivia.

Organiser Karen Lopez said Bolivia Munay currently sponsors five children in Bolivia and has donated $17,000 to Compassion Australia child-development projects.

``The proceeds from this year's event were donated to a Compassion Australia child-development centre in La Paz Bolivia,'' she said. ``The number of children attending this centre has grown from an initial 130 children in 2001 to over 600. This growth has put pressure on existing resources and infrastructure, so we're very proud to have been able to donate just over $6000 to this project.''

The money will be spent on a kitchen, storage room and lunch room. Ms Lopez said the rooms will improve hygiene, provide more equipment for food preparation and space for food storage. ``The event was truly a success. This brings our donations to Compassion Australia to over $20,000.''
