LIVERPOOL Council administrator Gabrielle Kibble was quietly awarded a pay rise of around 12per cent last September, taking her annual salary for two days a week to more than $208,000.
With superannuation and fringe benefits, such as travel expenses and a car, her total salary package this financial year is likely to top $247,000.
A bungle on behalf of the Local Government Remuneration Tribunal was behind the sudden pay rise.
The tribunal had not raised her salary since she started in March 2004 so awarded the increases to her starting salary of $185,000 in one hit.
General manager Phil Tolhurst said the administrator paid for her own phone and call costs.
The cost of her car is now shared with Wollongong Council following her appointment as one of that sacked council's three administrators this year.
Her Liverpool job will end immediately before the first meeting of the new council elected in September.
Former mayor Gary Lucas, a vocal critic of Ms Kibble, said her council-paid salary was obscene: ``Especially when she's only there two days a week and is making a mess of our lives.
``Look around you.
She's done nothing about the surrounds of Liverpool.
``Bring on September.''
Candidate Signe Westerberg said the salary was large but Liverpool was paying for a qualified person.
``Forget the domestic stuff, let's look at the financial,'' said Mrs Westerberg, who runs Liverpool Serviced Offices.
``She was appointed because of her ability and skills.
``Let's just hope that when the wash comes out it's all been cleared up.''
Local Government Minister Paul Lynch, the state MP for Liverpool, declined to comment.
